“…Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken from her.”
So, I’ve spent the last two weeks in travel mode. We’ve been packing, shopping, cleaning, and baking. We got back Sunday afternoon and jumped right back into unpacking so that we can repack, bake, shop and clean again.
I remember late last week really wanting to do it all. Making sure that the house was spotless upon our return, zero laundry remained to be washed and all the baking was done to perfection.
Let me be the first to tell you that about half of what I wanted to accomplish actually got done. There were a couple loads of laundry that needed done and my bed wasn’t made when we left. I have the tendency to become Martha. I want to be able to do it all. But the truth is I’m human and I can’t do everything.
Last week and even as we begin this week I feel my Martha tendency screaming to be heard. While the Mary side of me reminds me that yes there is work to be done but I must remember to keep God first.
When life gets busy, chaotic or stressful I find myself moving God to the back burner. I need to remember to resist the Devil in this area.
When life does get busy, chaotic or stressful that’s when I need God the most.
That’s when He can shine brighter guiding me down the right path. How can I expect God to help me through these times if I don’t seek His guidance and wisdom?
Life is all about choices. We decide what time to get out of bed in the morning, what to eat and when and what we do with our time. We can choose to honor God or dishonor Him with our actions. We choose the place that God has in our lives–the amount of influence that we let Him have daily.
As we go through the ups and downs of life let’s remember to keep God first. The world tells us we should be on hyper drive doing it all perfectly; but I encourage you to think about what you can let go. How you can become Mary in this Martha world.
Until next time,
