The Little Things in Life…

“…I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
~John 10:10b

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that we remember the most.

On Friday I had a friend over. When we got to my house we talked and shared interesting tid-bits over coffee. We then had some lunch while watching coverage of the Thunderbird Crash. After lunch we made cards, played games, painted our nails, and watched “Mom’s Night Out {If you haven’t seen this movie I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT; and I’m not getting paid to say that I really, really love that movie.}

9 out 10 made it on the circle. # 10 hit the bottom of the paper…

Saturday we went to the indoor range so that we could all practice our target shooting. Although I’m not where I want to be I am very thankful and encouraged by the progress I have made. I can now say that I’m hitting paper rather consistently. I couldn’t say that a month and a half ago. So I have made improvement! (:

After the range we went to the local Habitat for Humanity Re-Store and looked around then  popped into Goodwill to see if we could find any treasures. We didn’t find anything that we couldn’t live without,  however, I am very pleased that I made it out of there without a CD. (Now THAT is impressive…).

Sunday we went to church and then rested since several of us didn’t feel well.

Stack of Library Books

We also made a stop at the library…

Dad took Monday off so that he and us three kids could get our eyes checked. We had some errands to run before our appointments. We finished what we could and found we had some time to kill so we decided to check out the book store across the street. And let me tell you IT WAS AWESOME! There was an entire section of inspirational books and Amish romance novels. Then there was the book of funny sayings, old books with really pretty covers, and an entire shelf of pretty journals and notebooks. (I had to really work on some  self-discipline because I love note books!). There was also a gigantic section devoted to children’s books with all sorts of pretty illustrations and then a lot of biographies. So many books that looked so good. I didn’t look too in depth because I easily could have been bankrupt in a matter of a couple of hours. But I’m definitely going back in the near future!

We then went to our appointments and I got new contacts! I also got a really cool new summer hat that will match more of my blue clothing and a really cool pair of sunglasses. And let’s not forget the new glasses case that fits both my glasses and contacts! That will come in very handy for traveling (since I travel so frequently…).

Summer hat, sunglasses, and glasses caseThe reason that I’m sharing all of this with you is because I want you to know that you don’t need to do something BIG in order to make memories. Sure you can make great memories going on vacations and seeing the world. But you can make just as good of memories not leaving town. Sometimes the best memories are the little inexpensive things in life.

What are some little things that you have done that turn into some of the best moments of your life? I’d love for you to share them in the comments below!

Until next time,

Wednesday Wonders!(:

Hey Ya’ll! I’m really sorry for being gone for so long. I had a friend over on Friday (more on that tomorrow); and yesterday I was helping clean out and organize our family’s attic. But I’m back today with a few wonders for you! So, here we go!

1) Beautiful Sunset After the Rain

Sunset over flooded fieldFriday it didn’t just rain, it POURED. But after the rain cleared we had this beautiful sunset. I took picture after picture while we were taking my friend home. This one’s my favorite. I believe that it’s the sun setting above a partially flooded field.

2) The Baby Toad

Camouflaged ToadJojo and Mom found this little baby toad hanging out by the house last week. Just look how teeny he is! He loved to hop around and hide among the twigs on the ground. Because he’s so tiny he was really hard to spot. He was camouflaged with the ground… None the less I was still able to get a picture or two.

3) The Airplanes

Sky WritersOhio is known as the birthplace of Aviation. It’s also home to one of the Military’s air force bases and there’s a museum dedicated to our Nation’s air force history. We also have a yearly air show where some of the military’s best pilots preform. For the vast majority of my life I have lived very close to the airport, so every year for the airshow we’re able to get a pretty good seat from our  backyard. This year was no exception. On Sunday we were able to see the sky writers. These pilots do just what there name says: they write messages in the sky. It was actually really cool to not only see them do their thing but also to try and figure out what they were writing while looking around the trees.

What are some of the wonders that you have seen in your life this past week? I’d love for you to share them in the comments below!

Until next time,

Bailey Sue

Keeping Him 1st…

Exodus 20 Bible Page“…What I mean is that each of you says,’I follow Paul,’ or ‘I follow Apollos’, or ‘I follow Cephas’, or ‘I follow Christ’. Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?…”
~1 Corinthians 1:12-13

We know that the Bible says that we are to have God first and not bow down to idols. But in the United States it’s rare to see someone bowing down to an actual idol made of silver or gold. However we still struggle with idol worship today–just in different ways.

Sometimes idols can be as simple as a good thing put in the wrong place. For example it has been my goal for about a year to open my own little online shop selling my pictures on different products. I finally got the account set up and began to figure out the next steps. I would work on this project for hours each day. As time went on I began to feel cruddy, tired, grumpy, and stressed. I thought that I was really stressed about getting everything set up. So, I kept plugging away thinking that when everything was done I would feel better.

Once I launched everything I still felt down and I couldn’t figure out why.  Upon further investigation I realized that in my desire to get everything set up and going I began to idolize the business and blog. These were both good things that can make an impact for the kingdom of God. However put in the wrong place they can wreck havoc on my relationship with Jesus.

We can also idolize other people, T.V. shows, music or anything else that we put above God. The good thing is that when we mess up and put God on the back burner for a season He always welcomes us back home with open arms and love and grace.

Don’t believe me? The book of Exodus records the Jews’ journey from Egypt into the land that God had promised them. In chapter 32 while Moses was up on the mountain the people got impatient waiting for him to return. At Aaron’s suggestion they gave him their gold jewelry and he made them a golden calf.  Aaron told them that this golden calf had been the god that had led them out of Egypt. Even though the people messed up and disobeyed God (and they had to pay the consequences for their sin); God still loved them and led them to the land that He promised to give them.

So, next time you mess up; don’t beat yourself up. Realize that you messed up, ask God for forgiveness, learn from your mistake, and rest in His great grace.

Until next time,

Bailey Sue

Wednesday Wonders!(:

Welcome to Summer! Today is the official start to Summer. Here’s a few wonders from the past week.

1) The Summer Solstice

In case you were wondering today is the longest day of the entire year. I always think that that’s  really neat. I heard somewhere that my little section of southern Ohio has about 15 hours of daylight today. And as a bonus we start loosing daylight in the very near future; which means that Fall is just around the corner!! (YAY!)

2) This Picture of the Moon

Moon and power linesI love pictures of sunsets and the moon. The other night when we were out driving we saw a full moon. I snapped a picture or two and was very pleased with this one. I love the way that the power lines are all around the moon but not intersecting it.

3) The Vulture

Turkey VultureAbout a week ago Mom came and told me to grab my camera and take a picture of this vulture. He was hanging out on the neighbor’s roof. I was really surprised that he stayed put as long as he did especially when I had to  go inside and get a longer lens. Once I got a couple of really good pictures I decided to zoom in on the individual photos and was very shocked to see that he was eyeing me. As I looked closer at the images I realized that he was looking over his shoulder at me as if to say, “Why on earth are you taking my picture?”

What are some of wonders that you have noticed in your life this past week? I’d love for you to share them in the comments below!

Until next time,

Bailey Sue

Hey Ya’ll! I hope that you had a great weekend! I apologize for not posting on Thursday and Friday. I was working on that big project that I have been telling you about for the last several weeks. And thankfully I finished that project today!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen I’d like to introduce you to….

Snapshots of Contentment

 Snapshots of Contentment logo

After many, many weeks researching, making phone calls, stress, tears, and thoughts of giving up it’s finally here. My little online shop! My goal here is to share some of the better pictures from the blog so that you can enjoy their beauty in your own home on various products that you use everyday.

My hope is that these images encourage you and remind you that contentment can be found in your everyday life if you just look around you. As well as let you know that you don’t need a huge fancy camera to get good quality pictures. Using just your phone or tablet and a little know how you can take great pictures in your own backyard.

I hope that you’ll click on over to the shop and take a look around. You can do so by clicking here or on the heading just above the photo. I’d love for you to tell me what you think so far and what images you would like to see in the future. You can do that by either sending me an email here or by commenting below.

Thanks so much for all of your love and support!

Until next time,

Bailey Sue

Wednesday Wonders!(:

Hey Ya’ll! I hope that you’re having a great start to your week! It’s been a little warm here in Ohio and pouring rain at times this morning but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some wonders to be found. Let’s get started, shall we?

1) Baby Birds

Baby Birds in nest

While doing some yard work for a friend she informed us about the little birds that had made her bush their home. I went back with Dad to see if I could get a picture and it turns out that Mama birds aren’t very friendly toward short human photographers. I couldn’t get high enough to take the picture! So I had Daddy take it for me. The best part was that we didn’t get attacked by an angry Mama bird and the picture turned out great!

2) Playful Bunnies

Bunny Posing for the cameraThe other day we were out doing some work for another friend and noticed these little bunnies playing near her yard. It was fun to watch them dart around a big pine tree and up and down the side walk just playing around in the nice weather. I ended up getting several really good pictures and at one point one of the bunnies stopped and posed for a picture.

3) Yucca Plant Blooming

Yucca Plant in BloomA few weeks ago I noticed this Yucca plant was beginning to bloom. I have been keeping an eye on it and decided to photograph it today when there was a break in the rain. I love the small delicate flowers.

What are some of the wonders that you have noticed in your life this past week? I’d love for you to share them in the comments below!

Until next time,

Giving 100%

Purple Bell Flower“Whatever you do,work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…You are serving the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3:23,  24b

Over the years I’ve found out that I’m good at doing things partway. For years I’ve done just enough to get by… Do one complete load of laundry just to say that I did laundry even though there’s still three loads piled on the floor, cleaning out the cat litter maybe three days a week and racking my brain for  blog post ideas instead of writing them down as they come to mind.

Something that I’ve realized is that God wants more of me. He doesn’t want me to just skate through life by the seat of my pants, making excuses to avoid the tasks I don’t like. He wants me to give Him 100%. We don’t do things in this life to gain recognition or money. We do them because we love God and want to follow Him and do what He says.

“And the King said to them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'”
Matthew 25:40

Let’s remember that no matter what we do, big or small; we’re doing it to bring glory and honor to God (Matthew 5:16) and to serve Him not man.

Until next time,

Bailey Sue

Our Daily Blessings!(:

Happy Friday Ya’ll! How was your week? Here’s a few blessings from the past week that I’d like to share with you.

1) A little cold snap before the heat wave

Earlier this week it felt a little like Fall. It was cloudy and chilly but still very nice out. The weather made us want to wear all of our sweaters and boots and have a fire in the fireplace even though it’s June. We’re enjoying every day but excited for Fall to arrive since we didn’t really get to celebrate last year because of the move. But I’m very thankful that we had a bit of a cold snap because it’s going to be 91° on Sunday. (:

2) An Abundance of Clothes

I’ve been very blessed to have a lot of nice clothes. They may not be name brand or high fashion but they are in really good shape and I like them. Recently our washer decided to quit working properly, so we got a new one that will be delivered Monday. We had been able to fiddle with the dial and get it to run fairly consistently until yesterday. I’m very thankful that we all have enough seasonably appropriate clothes to not need to use the washer much until Monday.

 3) An Outdoor Bible study

Bible study material with a morning snack

This photo was taken last Summer…

The past few days I have decided to spend more time in Bible study and prayer. I knew that I needed to make some changes and decided to move everything outside to our front porch. And you know what? It’s been SO nice,  to sit outside and learn from God while being surrounded by His creation. If you ever have the opportunity I encourage you to do a Bible study outside. I find it to be very relaxing and refreshing.

What are some of the blessings that you have noticed in your life this past week? I’d love for you to share them in the comments below. Have a great weekend and stay cool in this heat!

Until next time,

Bailey Sue

Just Pray…

Praying Hands“Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.”
~Psalm 62:8

The past couple of days I’ve been reading from the book of Psalms. As I was reading today I noticed something that I’d like to share with you.

Now, I want you to know that I am by no means a Bible Scholar; just a girl sharing her thoughts. I realized that a lot of the Psalms I have been reading appear to be David’s prayers to God. I found encouragement in the fact that these prayers weren’t perfect. They weren’t all smiles, they were David’s thoughts.

David knew that He could pour his heart out to God and that God understood him and was strong enough to handle every one of his worries. He didn’t worry about making sure the prayer sounded eloquent enough; he just told God what was on his heart.

I don’t know about you; but often times I feel like my prayers aren’t good enough. I didn’t thank God enough or word that request just right.  What I forget is the simple truth that God already knows. Psalm 139:2 tells us that God knows when we sit and stand and He knows our every thought. He knows what we need before we do (Matthew 6:8).

If God already knows our thoughts why is that we feel the need to be perfect before speaking with Him? Sometimes I want to pray but don’t always know what to say or how to say it. No, worries, Romans 8:26-27 tells us that the Spirit helps us when we are weak and intercedes for us.

“You do not have, because you do not ask…”
James 4:2b

So go ahead and pray. Tell God what’s on your mind. Don’t worry about making it sound just right–just pray. Pour out your heart and wait expectantly for God to move. Keep your eyes open, He may just go above and beyond your original request (See Ephesians 3:20).

Until next time,

Bailey Sue

Wednesday Wonders!(:

It’s Wednesday Ya’ll! That means that it’s time for another addition to our Wednesday Wonders! So, here we go!

1) A Simple Marigold

Orange MarigoldWe decided to plant some Marigolds in the planter out front several weeks ago. I noticed that one of them happened to be a little taller than the rest. So, I got a picture. I love the detail that you’re able to see because it’s so crisp and clear.

2) A Reminder of a Promise

RainbowSunday night as we were driving home from church I was photographing yet another sunset. It was evident by the puddles on the road that we had just missed the downpour of rain. But we didn’t miss the rainbow in the clouds. Rainbows are another favorite of mine; I love the promise that they continue to represent. Remember that our God is ALWAYS faithful to keep EVERY ONE of His Promises (Deut. 7:9).

3) A Face in a Tree

Tree with a faceAs we were out walking today JoJo noticed that this tree looked like it had a face. So, naturally I took a photo to share with ya’ll.

What are some of the Wonders that you have noticed in your life this past week? I’d love for you to share them in the comments below!

Until next time,

Bailey Sue
